Kathy Steele, M.A., M.F.T.

I am a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist located in Newport Beach, California. My private practice is focused on helping individuals gain a greater sense of control and well being in their lives.

I was born and raised in Southern California. I earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine where I graduated with high honors. I obtained my Masters degree in psychology from Chapman University. I have extensive postgraduate training and experience in the areas of eating disorders, anxiety disorders, depression and gastric bypass surgery counseling.

My professional training and experience has been gained in a variety of settings. In addition to private practice I have gained experience in hospital, middle school, high school, and college settings. I have led a variety of support groups sponsored by school districts, hospitals, community service programs in such areas as achieving a cooperative divorce, anger management for children and adults, parenting teens effectively, compulsive overeating, and eating disorders issues.

In my private practice, I specialize in anxiety / stress problems, eating disorders, weight issues, depression and loss. I work with anxiety / stress related problems such as excessive worry, insomnia, performance anxiety, panic attacks and social discomfort. In my treatment of eating disorders, I use a team approach. I communicate with medical doctors, psychiatrists, treatment centers, and dietitians when indicated to provide comprehensive care. I provide counseling for weight issues which addresses the emotional / behavioral / thought processes that accompanies weight problems. Counseling for gastric bypass surgery is another service I provide. I work with individuals who have already undergone the surgery and are discouraged by gaining weight back, and those who are considering whether or not the surgery is a good option for them
